Change In The Entryway...

Hey everyone!!
I am currently blogging from Greensboro,NC.
We evacuated our home on the coast &
we are safe in our hotel room with our furbabies.
I hated leaving our home, but our home is
replaceable, our little family is not.
I hope & pray for safety for everyone in the path of Irene.

This week in the middle of working on some custom
furniture pieces for clients, I did a little adjusting to
our entryway. Ok, so I only added a mirror, but it made a huge difference!
Lately I have been thinking about "chincy" decorating.
For example, my entry table is a bulky piece &
I had a tiny shelf hanging above it with my framed vintage keys.
The huge bulky piece made the surrounding decor look chincy
& did nothing to enhance the area. It almost looked cluttered.
I happen to have a huge mirror in my garage that I had picked up from GoodWill
for $10 a while back that would be perfect for the job....

I'm pretty much obsessed with this ornate gold mirror.
I want more.

Before:

I didn't realize how much I hated this set up before until I just looked
at this before picture. Funny huh?

It's a start.
A good start.
There are many more changes to come to the entryway,
but I like the direction
that this oversized mirror put me in.

Can I tell you where my gold mirror obsession came from?
Well, Pinterest of course.
I think Gold is my new obsession.
I can't wait to bring more gold in through out my house.

The Gold Mirror really anchors the large entry table & adds an element of drama
that was seriously lacking before.

Have I told you lately that I can't wait for wood floors?
Carpet is cozy, but not my design choice.
You want to know why I don't have them yet?
because I can't decide on what wood floor choice to go with!
That's me. Mrs. Indecisive!

Other accessories:
Frame: TJ Maxx
Teal Vase: Hobby Lobby
Scentsy Warmer: Scentsy {Click here to order}
Lamp: TJ Maxx
Entry Table: Original piece
Mirror: GoodWill

Do you love my Gold Mirror as much as me?
Let me know what you think of adding gold into your decor.
I am now going to enjoy my stay in Goldsboro with my hubby & dogs,
& try to forget the hurricane looming over my house back on the coast...
We will think of this as a surprise mini vacation.
Yes. That sounds fabulous.
Say a prayer for the east coast tonight!
Thanks for stopping by guys!

Eclectic Shelf Decor...

Hey everyone! I wanted to do a quick post on how I styled my Crown Molding Ledge from Pottery Barn. I have a few of these shelves around my house & I love them! This particular one is hanging above our bed in our master bedroom, & I wanted to show you how I styled it for now...

Rustic Frame: TJ Maxx $7.99
Mirror: CSN Stores Online $30.00
Candle sticks: Local Antique Store $5.00
Stems: Local Craft Store $2.00 per
Bird: Michaels $4.00
Vases: They were candle holders, but I transformed them. & they were a gift.

I love the eclectic mix of items on the shelf & also the beach(y) feel all of the textures and whites give, but also how transitional it is from season to season. {i.e. Winter}

If you have been following Liz Marie Blog for a while you know that our master bedroom is under construction & has been for quite a while.. but it's getting there & I promise there will be many posts to come....

No, those are not my kids in the frame. I don't have any kids. Don't judge, I have not put a picture in it yet.. you do it all the time.. don't lie.

Okay. One more...

So there was a quick look into how I styled one of my pottery barn shelves. I hope this inspired you to decorate any shelves or ledges you may have in your home. & now some pretty fun news....

A Girly Girl Room & Blogging...

It's Sunday!! Usually my favorite day of the week.. Church, relaxation, hanging out with my husband. Simply amazing. Sadly, my husband left this morning for two months for military training. AHHH. I swear, if I wasn't so good at being independent, I would go insane with how much my husband is gone because of the military. Such is the life of a military wife, & I can't complain because I am happy he is still in the states & not gone again for 7 months like last time. Before he left, we celebrated my birthday (I will be 23 this upcoming Friday!!) He bought me my new MacBook Pro ((HAPPY DANCE)). Not exactly what I was wanting for my birthday, but due to recent events of all our computers crashing at once & a certain HP computer we have being gone now for 3 weeks at Geek Squad... My hubby did not want me to be without a computer while he was gone. We have been planning to get a Mac now for about a year and a half & now was the perfect time. I have such an amazing husband, gosh.. sappy moment...

Okay. So, like every other time my husband is gone, I plan a thousand huge projects to keep me busy. I already work 40+ hours a week at my job, but I love to always have projects to work on to keep me super busy & make the time fly. One of the projects I have planned is re-doing our bedroom.. I know we just moved into our new house this past June, but I have never been satisfied with how our master bedroom turned out... more on that later. I did a poll on Liz Marie Blog Facebook yesterday to get votes on bedding. I can't decide!! Here are the two choices...

Option Numero uno....

& Option number two....

Both bedding sets are from Pottery Barn (Addicted....) What do you think? I really want a neutral wall color, and a more cozy feel than I have now. Number 1 or 2? hmmm. I really wish I wasn't always so indecisive.

Anyways.. on to the main point of this blog post... I wanted to show you this cute little baby girl's bedroom. A mix of eclectic textures, colors, & accessories makes this baby girl room a perfect retreat for a sweet baby girl...

Isn't this room lovely? Well, Sarah went above & beyond & re-finished an old dresser for a beautiful changing table to replace the one in the picture above...

Love the hardware she chose!!

Dresser Before....

& After...

Hope you all enjoyed this peek into this cute little girls room. Sarah really did an amazing job! I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend... I have been planning a major "spring cleaning" on top of all my planned projects, so I plan on tackling some tedious cleaning today to keep me busy.. this may sound awful to some, but I love the satisfaction from a clean house!! What projects are you working on now? Do you have any major spring cleaning projects you are working on? Go over to Liz Marie Blog Facebook to share all your recent DIY projects, I would love to see all your DIY blog posts!!

Burlap Pillow...

Another great find I got at an antique store while in Michigan a couple weeks ago was an awesome vintage burlap bag. I had been looking for one for a while, but to me everyone I found had been overpriced.. I mean it's an old bag, right? I found this little gem at an antique store for about 5 dollars. I justified it because of its enormous size. Here is a pillow I made out of part of the Burlap Bag....

{Burlap Bag}

This is the burlap bag I bought for 5 dollars at an antique store.

Anyone from Minnesota? I wish it said Michigan.. But I love the writing, that's my favorite part of burlap pillows.

Honestly, to make this pillow, I took the easy way out. I used a pillow I already had as the insert, & used "no sew" strips & an iron as the seal. I know, I know, I just got a brand new sewing machine, but I am a little intimidated by it!!

Backside of the pillow.. I absolutely love the look of burlap.

Hope you enjoyed seeing my burlap pillow. Another addition to my eclectic mix of pillows. Do you have any projects that you are working on right now?? Go link them up on Liz Marie Blog Facebook!! I would love to see all of your DIY projects. Hope you all are having a good week.. Two more days until the weekend!!!

Window Shutter...

... So the window shutter is complete, for now. I don't know if you have noticed at all, but I am constantly making changes when it comes to home decor. I am never satisfied. It's sad, when I get done with something I love it & the next day I am thinking of new ideas for the project. Anyways I made these fun little twine wreaths yesterday to add to my Window Shutter {as seen in my previous post} So this is the window shutter as of now....

The wreaths were very simple to make. Just a little twine & a few Styrofoam circle wreaths from Michael's & I was all set. I thought about adding something to the wreaths, but I decided to keep them as simple as possible to show off the shutter & all it's distressed glory.

{{Window Shutter Before...}}

I really did like the original color of the window shutter, but I wanted to personalize it myself, so I made it a creamy white, no distressing needed because of the already distressed condition of the wood.

I added this knob to the shudder, doesn't it look like it was meant for it? It was the first knob I used from the huge collection I scored while I was in Michigan {Check out the collection I got for only 20 dollars HERE}

The wreaths are attached with some simple black string. I am debating whether or not to add some ribbon just for embellishment. For now it remains to  look like it's "floating" with out ribbon.

See at the top where the shutter was damaged? Since this shutter is an antique & is very old, the condition was not so good. I am in the process of fixing the top piece.

Do you think I should add some ribbon to the wreaths to attatch them to the shutter? What are your thoughts?  I hope you are all having an amazing weekend. My weekend has been very relaxing so far. Spent the day downtown with the puppies and my husband, it's so beautiful here in NC! What kind of DIY projects are you working on right now?? Go share your DIY projects & blog posts on Liz Marie Blog facebook page!! I would love to see them!

In the middle...

So I am in the middle of a project that involves this {Pretty} awesome window shutter, but I felt the need to post a little update. For a long time now I have been looking for the Perfect window shutter for this odd wall in our kitchen. While home in Michigan I found this large green shutter & knew it was the {Perfect} one. Not so much the color, but the size. So after changing the color & fixing it up a little here is what it looks like so far...

See this wall? It's pretty much a focal point & I wanted to make some "shutter art" Does that exist? Now it does. I am in the middle of adding more details & I am liking the progress so far!

{Before}

I got this little gem at an antique store for less then {Twenty Dollars} which was totally worth it because of how long I waited to find one this size.

There is my "Shutter Art" update.. I do not have the much more to add, but I am excited for it to be finished so I can show you all!! I hope your week is going good. It's Wednesday night, two more days until the weekend!! My news of the week is I Shattered broke my iPhone 3G last night, so today I finally upgraded to the new {iPhone 4} so far I love it!! That is all & I will update you on the shutter progress soon. If you have an {DIY} projects you want to share, go to Liz Marie Blog Facebook and post a link!!

Wood Smoke...

One of the most asked questions I get is, "What color did you is your living room/dining room?" I try to respond to all the questions I get in e-mails and in comments.. but as I was browsing through this months Better Homes & Gardens I saw a whole article dedicated to the color I used. So I decided to dedicate a blog post to the color. The color is Wood Smoke by Glidden. From the instant I saw this color a year ago, I fell in love. I have a slight unhealthy obsession with the color gray. Wood Smoke is the perfect neutral, & for lack of a better description, "Brown Gray". Anyways so I took a few pictures of the article.. There were some other paint colors listed in the article that are pretty amazing as well...

Wood Smoke:
"Gray is the new neatral, and it's easy to see why-this color goes with almost any other hue and makes art stand out."

Check out this article for yourself on Pg. 43 of the March edition of Better Homes & Gardens magazine.

Some Examples of Wood Smoke on my walls...

We have an open concept home.. So we carried the Wood Smoke color through the entry way, living room, dining room, & Kitchen. Have I mentioned I LOVE THIS COLOR!

Here are some other colors in the article..
Valspar: Honeysuckle Beige
Behr.Off White
AceHardware.Palmetto
BenjaminMoore.Gentle Butterfly
Glidden.Wood Smoke

So there you go, the answer to the most popular question!! Hope this was helpful!! Am I the only one who LOVES this color?? If you have used this color in your home, Go to Liz Marie Blog Facebook Page and share your 'WOOD SMOKE' photos!!

Vintage Keys...

You may remember my framed vintage keys from my entryway post I did a while back. I made these framed vintage keys with three small black shadow boxes & added three vintage keys from Pottery Barn. Well, I always loved them, but something always bothered me about them. I hated how the keys kind of blended into the black background. So, yesterday I added some fun Wallpaper samples to the back.. & I Love how they turned out...

Before...

The keys got lost in the black background...

After...

Love the Results

Thanks for stopping by to see this quick little before & after. I am so glad that I did this.. I am even thinking about painting the frames, but that's for another day. Hope you all are having a great weekend! Don't forget to stop by Liz Marie Blog Facebook Page to share your DIY projects & more!!
