Barn Treasure...

Hi! From Louisville, Kentucky!!
I am here visiting for my friends baby shower for the week &
can I just say, I love this city.
If you live here. You are lucky.

Yah, that's me in Sams Club after getting 4 inches cut off my hair
{quick cell phone pic to send the hubby,don't judge}
It's dyed {Ombre.. so fancy}. My first time getting my hair colored in a salon &
I am 23 years old.. why have I never colored my hair before?? I love it.
If you are in the Louisville area go see Ashley  Hair by Benny & Friends.. she is awesome!

When I was contacted this past week to
refinish a dresser that had been in a barn for years,
I was terrified scared.
What condition was the dresser in?
How many layers of paint were on it?
& what else was in this said barn?
Yikes!
I was prepared for the worst.
Needless to say, I had a bonding experiment with this lovely dresser
& I learned so much!

Before...

Okay. So this is after I started sanding & stripping to see what
was under the dingy white paint.
I discovered a plethora of colors which was going to make
me work my little booty off.

I first tried crackle paint on this little dresser.... eeew. Why didn't anyone warn me how
awful that stuff is. It turned out clumpy & looked awful.
I ended up stripping it at midnight one night because
I hated how it turned out. Crap. Maybe it's just me. Let me know if you love it
because after this project, I hate it.

So, after stripping & sanding
I repainted the dresser a beautiful white linen.
sanded to shabby chic the dresser & added some
oil rubbed bronze hardware.

The dresser turned out lovely,
but I probably will never try crackle paint unless you have
some great tips for me to try.
Again, why didn't anyone warn me?

So there is the "Barn Dresser" turned into a little treasure.
I was very pleased that all the hard work payed off.
I sure learned a lot about layers of paint, crackle finish, &
old barn dressers.
It's a good thing that I love learning.
I hope you all have a fabulous weekend, I am going to enjoy
my last few days here in Louisville
& don't forget if you have anything you want
to give away in our "2,000 follower giveaway"
email me at lizmariegalvan@gmail.com, I would love to
hear from you!!

  2. Crackle finishes sure are tricky. The best ones, I think, are the natural ones. It is so hard to recreate it with repro paint. But the little guy turned out cute! Andrea @ townandprairie

  6. Hello Liz Marie,

Have you used the Annie Sloan chalk paints yet? If you apply chalk paint thickly and apply heat using a blowdryer, it will give you a gorgeous crackle finish. I accidentally discovered this when I painted too close to a hot lamp...my paint crackled and I loved it!

  9. You are amazing to be able to refinish that. Is that what you do for a living? I just love the shabby look.

Love the hair. I'm from KY 45 min from louisville, we don't live there now, but my family is still there and a lot of my in-laws in L-ville. I've never heard anyone like it so much! Glad your having fun.

  13. i once tried crackle for a small project (a picture frame) and it turned out pretty nicely, but I remember it wasn't easy to master! i ended up mixing the paint with some water to thin it out, and I used a knife to smooth some clumpy parts.

  17. I recently found your blog & I love it! I am from Michigan as well, but I still live here. Your hair looks amazing (as it does in every picture I've seen) & the dresser is fabulous! I'm trying to work up the nerve to paint my own dresser... my husband & I are currently using our childhood dressers & they need some updating! Seeing all of your transformations is helping me feel like my plan will work!
